Arnaud de la Fortelle

Arnaud de la Fortelle

Mines - ParisTech - CAOR

Arnaud de La Fortelle is the Head of the Robotics Lab of Mines ParisTech. After leaving the Ecole Polytechnique, he joined Ponts et Chaussées, and presented a thesis on the theory of probabilities as part of his applied mathematics doctoral course at the INRIA (2000). Arnaud’s post-doctoral work at the INRIA focused on stochastic modeling, following which he took up project management responsibilities, including a mission as part of the LaRA (Automated Road) consortium, of which Mines ParisTech is also a member. He was appointed Director of LaRA in 2006 and Head of the Robotics Lab of Mines ParisTech in 2008 and has been part of several major national and international projects, as well as the coordinator of the GeoNet (Europe) and AROS (France) projects. Arnaud has also worked on the Systematic, Moveo and Vehicle of the Future clusters. He has served on the boards of the PREDIT and ANR commissions and is a member of the Board of Governors of the EEE ITS Society.

His publications include work on probabilities (large deviations theory) and modeling stochastic systems (telecommunications and transport networks). During his work on LaRA, he developed a broader vision of intelligent transport systems, which formed the subject of his dissertation in 2009.

Arnaud is currently involved in work on cooperative systems, both through communications and modeling.

Robotics Lab

The Robotics Lab is part of the Mathematics and Systems department of Mines ParisTech. Its brief is to study robotic systems both from an academic angle, to gain a better understanding of how they work, and through applied research, mainly in cooperation with industry, to show the capabilities of the new methods and also to offer the possibility of analyzing real systems. The Robotics Lab does not set out to cover all aspects of robotics, but rather to offer a coordinated set of scientific and technical themes relating theory to application.
